Ajeeb Daastaans Netflix Movie Review: Unique stories with brilliant acting

Ajeeb Daastaans Review: Netflix anthologies tell unique stories with wonderful performances

Ajeeb Daastaans commented: With an absolutely amazingly rich talent of actors, this Netflix anthology is a must-see.

Ajeeb Daastaans  on Netflix is an anthology of four short stories, each of which has a different relationship. Although the main theme of the film is the "ajeeb" itself, the film also adopts social commentary. If you ask us, you might not want to stop. Over 2 hours and 22 minutes long, you will see how these "Daastaans" are layered and beautifully written.

Ajeeb Daastaans Cast: Jaideep Ahlawat, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Armaan Ralhan, Abhishek Banerjee, Nushrat Bharucha, Konkona Sensharma, Aditi Rao Hydari, Shefali Shah, Manav Kaul, Tota Roychoudhary

Technical Department: Produced by Karan Johar, Ajeeb Daastaans has four directors on board: Shashank Khaitan, Raj Mehta, Neeraj Ghaywan, and Kayoze Irani. It is written by Shashank Khaitan, Sumeet Saxena, Neeraj Ghaywan, and Uzma Khan.

Where to watch: Ajeeb Daastaans is now streaming on Netflix. (April 16)

Ajeeb Daastaans plot

The film tells four stories. "Majnu" takes Jaideep as the local Gong Pablo, and Sheikh plays Lipakshi, a daughter of Mla. This is a marriage without love, but not for reasons you might think of. On the one hand, Lipakshi tries to get rid of the antics by finding love outside of marriage, and she seems to be getting her lover into trouble. Pablo, her husband, although she doesn't want to do anything with her, wants to make sure that "Garima" and "Seema" are kept. The ending of this story is a turning point we can't see. This is directed by Shashank.

Mehta’s Khilauna with Nushrat serve as houses to help Meenal, Inaya Verma serves as her sister Binny, and Abhishek serves as the iron man Sushil. In order to find happiness, these three people experienced a very cruel situation. Although Meenal just wanted to buy some electricity for herself and her sister wanted to buy some free food, she was pushed farther and farther.

Geeli Pucchi by Ghaywan narrates" tells the story ofBharti (Konkana) and Priya (Aditi). While Bharti  is a worker at the Dalit factory, trying to surpass her ranks, Priya is almost the opposite. Without going into too many details, Priya suddenly became a new data operator, and Bharti has been paying attention to this job. How to end this is the highlight!

Kayoz's Ankahi is the story of a couple, Natasha (Shefali) and Rohan (Tota), parents Samaira, who is slowly losing her hearing ability. Although Natasha learned sign language for her, Rohan did not. Natasha kept arguing and disagreeing, and found comfort in Kabir (Manav), who also uses sign language. This story is played almost around its title Anakhi, and this is where the beauty lies.

First of all, it is absolutely overwhelming, from how every story in this Netflix anthology has an impact. Although Majnu talked about how desire, love and desire are caused, it was the fascinating performances of Sheikh and Ahlavat that won us. When you experience it, you will see how it also tries to break the stereotypes around gender and family. A stark comment on how honor is the most important, everything else seems to take a back seat. In one scene, Lipakshi tells Raj how he can stare at her all day, however, talking about honor is exactly the kind of hypocrisy that needs to be shouted out.

A surprisingly brilliant performance came from Nushrat, where she unearthed various layers to her character Minal. Although Khilauna is a story, we may find that in many families, it is not a representative of the rebels, the upper class pushes the lower class. In addition to the abuse of power, it also reveals class imbalances, both intertwined and how intertwined. When we talk about human rights, this story shows what people also do in its name. In this strong narrative of class, we see the bright moments between Nushrat, Inayat, and Banerjee. They are beautiful. The background score of this story, especially, has my heart. Although this is a rather uncomfortable story, the producer does not market it as an unpleasant story, and music helps.

Ajeeb Daastaans Tralier

The third story sees  Konkana and Aditi, although it talks about the caste system, this is their performance that elevates the story. There is a scene in which Batty of Konkana said, "Humme koi defect nahi hai jo tumhe theek karna hai" and it has my heart. By the way, the dwarves managed to give so many lessons about caste, class, and gender. There are so many things, you need to take a breath, this is the final story, Anakhi for you.

Shefali and Manav did catch my attention, but this is what I expected. But in more than one aspect, Anakhi is the most feeling good, but disturbing story. On the one hand, Manav’s character Kabir said things like 'Mujhe lagta hai log aaj kal khus hona bhool gaye hain', and he also said things like 'tumne toh ankhon se bhi jhoot bol liya'. Moreover, it is beautiful, and it can only be done by class actors like Shefali and Manav.

Everything about Ajeeb Daastaans is likable, including supporting actors, and everything else. For someone who thinks cinematography is important, it also fascinates me. The introduction editor of Ajeeb Daastaans is also so beautiful that I can't fast forward and start credits.

Ajeeb Daastaans High Point

The actors in each story are an absolute highlight for me. Although Anakhi is one of my favorites, Geeli Pucchi also left a lasting impact. The best part about the Netflix anthology Ajeeb Daastaans is how it makes you think. Although it raised questions, it did not explicitly do so. In Ajeeb Daastaans, everyone has something, and everyone has a point in every story. Don't forget that at the end of each story, it leaves you with a surprise ending! In addition, one might think that Ajeeb Daastaan’s cast is tailored for every story we hear.

Ajeeb Daastaans lows Point

There is nothing to dislike about this movie. A quick review does make me wonder if it is obviously complicated? Without giving up any saboteurs, Khilauna’s ending is open perception. It’s just maybe, some stories don’t need a complete circle, it will be good!

Should you watch it?

You should definitely not miss watching a movie, this Ajeeb Daastaans comment is proof. With an absolutely beautiful writing story and well-directed shots, this film has raised a fairly high threshold. Every story has so many layers, and I feel overwhelmed and frustrated at the same time. On Netflix, there is almost nothing about Ajeeb Daastaans, it is not so ajeeb, however, it makes you smile, or often, tears in your eyes. Honour to Ajeeb Daastaans and the actors of the entire team!
